Somalia’s 2016 Vision is a failed opportunity. It has succumbed to the current leadership’s misrule, lack of sincerity and trustworthiness. The leadership’s dictatorial ambitions outweighed its declared mandate and as a result the Vision’s fate is sealed by this corruptive ambition. The leadership did not shy away from openly announcing that it had failed its mandate of leading the country to democratic process. The wasted opportunity created uncertainty which may have far-reaching negative consequence for the whole of East African region.

In view of the outcome of the last consultative meeting in Mogadishu in mid-October, this year, Tusmo would like to present its position on the new approach to retrieve Somalia out of the prevailing political uncertainty. This comes after the elected Somali government failed to deliver its mandate of paving the way for genuine reconciliation and a democratic election. That government was hijacked by a blinkered group whose main goal never went beyond plundering the country and depriving the country an opportunity to put it back on the rails within the four years of its mandate.

As Al-Shabab ebbs away of Mogadishu, it is a sigh of relief for the Transitional Government (TFG), the AMISOM troops and the war-weary inhabitants of Mogadishu, but this is not the end of Somalia’s problems. Al-Shabab has just been one of many insuperable problems that had been agonizing the unfortunate country and its people.
